Abstract

Liquid smoke is a condensate liquid resulting from coconut shell pyrolysis which contains the main constituents of acids, phenols and carbonyls, so it is widely applied as a natural preservative in food and as an anti-bacterial. Gel preparations are preferred because when used they leave a translucent, elastic layer, good drug release and an attractive appearance. This study aims to determine whether liquid smoke can be formulated into an acne gel dosage form on a galactomannan basis which at certain concentrations has antimicrobial activity againstStaphylococcus aureus and does not cause skin irritation. This research was conducted using experimental and descriptive methods. Beginning with collecting literature information related to the content of liquid smoke from coconut shells, then making a galactomannan base, formulation of acne gel preparations from liquid smoke, making microbiological media, methods of testing antimicrobial activity, examining the physical quality of preparations including preparation homogeneity, testing the preparation's pH, testing preparation stability, and irritation test on volunteers. Based on the results of the study, it was shown that liquid smoke can be formulated into an acne gel dosage form based on galactomannan. Homogeneity test results on gel preparations remained homogeneous, the pH obtained remained stable, skin irritation test results did not cause irritation, preparation viscosity test results obtained between 4520-9990 mPas, gel preparation test on growthStaphylococcus aureus at a concentration of 5% gives an inhibition of 15.3 mm and the results of the antibacterial activity test on liquid smoke can inhibit growthStaphylococcus aureus in the minimum range of 12.5 mg/ml gives an inhibitory diameter of 7.0 mm which is included in the medium category.

Abstract

High levels of anxiety or depression during pregnancy can pose risks such as stunted fetal growth and premature birth. Music is believed to be used for relaxation, stress relief and anxiety reduction because music is an organized auditory stimulus consisting of melody, rhythm, harmony, shape and style. Aromatherapy is also a non-pharmacological treatment that uses essential oils and stimulates the olfactory system to reduce stress and create a sense of calm. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of classical music therapy and aromatherapy candles on the anxiety level of third trimester pregnant women. This research method is a pre-experimental quantitative type. The design used in this study was one group pretest posttest, the population in this study were third trimester pregnant women in the Karangan Health Center area. The sampling technique was simple random sampling of 44 third trimester pregnant women. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that the level of anxiety before the intervention experienced by most of the respondents was moderate anxiety in the number of 21 respondents (47.7%) and the level of anxiety after the intervention was mostly with mild anxiety in the number of 20 respondents (45.5%). The results of the bivariate analysis showed that there was an effect of classical music therapy and lavender aromatherapy candles on reducing the anxiety level of third-trimester pregnant women with a result (p=0.000) smaller than (<0.05). The anxiety level score in the pre-test measurement is higher than the post-test measurement, indicated by the mean value in the pretest (23.57) higher than the posttest (19.16) which means there is a decrease in the anxiety level score in the respondents before and after intervention.

Abstract

Hyperemesis gravidarum, which often occurs in the early stages of pregnancy, can be quite disruptive. However, the majority of pregnancy-related nausea and vomiting can be managed with outpatient care and the use of antiemetic medications. In this context, social support, especially from spouses, and the mother's attitude toward hyperemesis gravidarum symptoms can play a role in preventing further development of this condition. This research was conducted to examine the relationship between the mother's attitude and spousal support with the occurrence of Grade II-III hyperemesis gravidarum at the Kaubun Health Center in 2023. The research method used was a correlation study with a cross-sectional approach. The study population involved 32 first-trimester pregnant women who visited the Kaubun Health Center in January 2023, and the entire population was sampled. The results of the statistical analysis using the chi-square test indicated a significant relationship between the mother's attitude (p-value = 0.000) and spousal support (p-value = 0.006) with the occurrence of hyperemesis gravidarum. Therefore, the conclusion of this research is that the mother's attitude and spousal support are associated with the occurrence of Grade II-III hyperemesis gravidarum at the Kaubun Health Center in 2023. Husbands play a crucial role in providing support, understanding, and positive feelings to wives experiencing hyperemesis gravidarum, helping wives feel comfortable and capable of managing these symptoms. A deeper understanding of this condition enables husbands to provide more effective support, contributing to the prevention and management of hyperemesis gravidarum during pregnancy.

Abstract

Emesis gravidarum, or excessive nausea and vomiting during early pregnancy, is a common issue frequently experienced by pregnant women. Most cases of pregnancy-related nausea and vomiting can be managed through outpatient care and the use of sedatives and anti-emetics. However, the treatment of hyperemesis gravidarum, a more severe form of pregnancy-related nausea and vomiting, can be approached both pharmacologically and non-pharmacologically. One non-pharmacological approach involves the use of aromatherapy with lemon essential oil and the consumption of ginger-infused beverages. This study aims to analyze the effects of lemon aromatherapy and ginger beverage consumption on reducing emesis gravidarum symptoms in first-trimester pregnant women at the Kaubun Health Center. The research employs a Pretest-Posttest without Control Group design, with a sample of 30 first-trimester pregnant respondents. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon test reveals a significant difference in the reduction of emesis gravidarum symptoms between the group receiving lemon aromatherapy and the group consuming ginger beverages, with a p-value of 0.001. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the administration of lemon aromatherapy and ginger beverage consumption has a positive impact on reducing emesis gravidarum symptoms in first-trimester pregnant women. This non-pharmacological approach can be an effective alternative for managing emesis gravidarum during early pregnancy.

Abstract

Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) remain serious issues related to pregnancy and childbirth. To address this problem and enhance maternal knowledge about pregnancy danger signs, innovative efforts through maternal classes are necessary. The objective of this study is to examine the influence of maternal empowerment through maternal classes on maternal knowledge about pregnancy danger signs in UPT Karangan Primary Health Center, Kutai Timur Regency. This study utilized a pre-experimental design with one-group pretest and posttest. The purpose was to assess the influence of maternal empowerment through maternal classes on maternal knowledge in UPT Karangan Primary Health Center, Kutai Timur Regency. The population consisted of 54 pregnant women who attended maternal classes in UPT Karangan Primary Health Center during the period of July 2022 to November 2022. Nonprobability sampling technique was used to select a sample of 22 pregnant women. The test statistic showed that the Sig (2-tailed) value was 0.008, which is less than α (α=0.05). Based on the analysis using the Mc Nemar test, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence between pretest and posttest scores in the first and second meetings. Maternal empowerment through maternal classes significantly enhances knowledge about pregnancy danger signs. Expert teaching and class evaluation contribute to the effectiveness of this program in reducing maternal and infant mortality rates.

Abstract

Aloe vera (Aloe vera L.) is an herbal plant that contains phytochemicals such as tannins, saponins, flavonoids, and polyphenols, which are useful in healing cut wounds. The phytochemical content has antimicrobial, antibacterial, and antiseptic properties. Several research findings show wound healing activity in experimental animals that have been treated with aloe vera plant extract. This research aimed to make ethanol extract gel from aloe vera leaves and test cuts on male white mice (Mus musculus). The type of research used is true experimental design research. An incision wound was made on the back of the mouse with a length of 1 cm and a depth of 2 mm. The test animals used were 24 animals which were divided into 6 experimental groups, namely Positive Control (Bioplacenton), Negative Control (Without extract content), Base (Without aloe vera extract and preservatives), F1 (Aloe vera extract content 2.5%), F2 (Aloe vera extract content 5%), and F3 (Aloe vera extract content 7.5%). Statistical analysis of wound healing data was carried out using the One way ANOVA (Analysis of Variants) method, while the physical examination of the gel formulation was described descriptively. The statistical test results significantly affected wound healing in male white mice (p<0.05). There is a significant difference between the negative control and F3, p-value = 0.027. The best activity in the wound healing process is F3, with an average percentage of wound healing on the 7th day, F2 on the 8th day, and F1 on the 9th day.

Abstract

Whitening cream is a cosmetic product containing organic chemicals or other substances which are used to whiten the face or remove black spots on the skin. Whitening cream has many benefits for sufferers of skin disorders, namely being able to whiten and remove black marks. Meanwhile, the concept of beauty circulating in society is having white skin. This stigma makes people, especially teenagers, justify any means to get white skin. One way to beautify your skin is to use skin whitening and lightening products. The aim of this research was to determine hydroquinone levels in whitening cream in X City using UV–vis spectrophotometry. The method used in this research is quantitative using the UV–vis spectrophotometric method. The research results showed that all of the 15 samples tested were positive for containing hydroquinone with the highest percentage of hydroquinone found in S1, S5, and S10 with a percentage of 0.0581%; 0.062%; and 0.0501%. Meanwhile, samples with low percentages were in S4, S6, S7, and S12 with a percentage gain of 0.011%; 0.0134; 0.0103%; and 0.0105%. It can be concluded that the hydroquinone levels of the 15 whitening cream samples do not meet the requirements permitted by BPOM No. 23 of 2019, namely 0%.
